Oil Changes

The main function of motor oil is to reduce friction and wear on moving parts and to clean the engine from sludge and varnish. It also neutralises acids that originate from fuel and from oxidation of the lubricant, improves sealing of piston rings, and cools the engine by carrying heat away from moving parts.

 oil change

Changing your vehicle's oil and oil filter protects your expensive engine against unnecessary wear. A few dollars spent once or twice a year is a lot less expensive than a new engine!

Here at WRS we can drain and dispose of your old oil and oil filter and replace both with leading brand products.

Brakes

Modern vehicles have brakes on all four wheels, operated by a hydraulic system. The brakes may be disc or drum types. We can replace your warn brakes and restore your vehicle's stopping power.

Disc brakes

Disc brakes have discs that spin with the wheel. The disc is straddled by a calliper with small hydraulic pistons.

The pistons press on your brake pads and clamp against the disc from each side to slow or stop it.

Many cars have wear sensors. When the pads are nearly worn out a warning light on the instrument panel appears.

Drum brakes

A drum brake has a hollow drum that turns with the wheel. Its open back is covered by a backplate on which there are two curved shoes carrying friction linings.

The shoes are forced outwards by hydraulic pressure moving pistons in the brake's wheel cylinders, so pressing the linings against the inside of the drum to slow or stop it.

Drum brakes may fade if they are applied repeatedly within a short time - they heat up and lose their efficiency until they cool down again. Discs, with their more open construction, are much less prone to fading.

Suspension

Suspension is the system of tyres, tyre air, springs, shock absorbers and linkages that connects a vehicle to its wheels and allows relative motion between the two. Wear in your car's suspension can make your vehicle unsafe. Here at WRS we can quickly identify any issues with your car's suspension, replace worn components and get you back on the road promptly and more importantly, safely!

 suspension

Suspension systems must support both road holding/handling and ride quality, which are at odds with each other. The tuning of suspensions involves finding the right compromise. It is important for the suspension to keep the wheel in contact with the road surface as much as possible because all the road or ground forces acting on the vehicle do so through the contact patches of the tyres.

  • Reduced braking efficiency resulting in longer stopping distances
  • Reduced efficiency of Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESP)
  • Increased risk of skidding in the wet
  • Aquaplaning occurs at lower speeds
  • Less control when cornering or caught in a crosswind
  • Increased driver tiredness and reduced speed or response
  • Increased wear of tyres and other suspension components
  • Uneven/oscillating headlight level causing dazzle to oncoming drivers
  • Increased passenger discomfort

The performance of a shock absorber deteriorates over time. A driver will unwittingly adapt their driving to compensate for the wear and worsening condition and handling.
